Dental Focus

Receiving proper dental care is just as important as receiving proper medical care. Caring for our teeth and keeping them in good condition should be a priority for all of us. We at Greater Meridian Health Clinic, Inc. recommend that you visit your dental care provider at least twice a year. By doing so, your dentist can monitor your oral health and perform the necessary preventive care to possibly prevent future oral health problems.

As an old saying goes: “Be True to your teeth or they will be False to you.”

Brushing our teeth, at least twice a day, helps reduce tooth decay and gum disease by helping to remove bacteria and leftover food particles from our mouth. Remember, to brush your tongue when brushing your teeth to remove bacteria from your tongue—this also helps control bad breath.

If we neglect to brush our teeth as recommended, our mouths—in a sense, becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. The undisturbed bacteria will eventually attach itself to the enamel of our tooth surface. Over a period of time—bacteria continuing to attach itself to the tooth’s surface—the bacteria will create a film of plaque on your teeth. The untreated plaque will eventually create tooth decay. Therefore, if possible, please brush your teeth twice a day to help prevent tooth decay and maintain good oral health.

When purchasing dental care products, it’s a good practice to buy products that have been approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). If a product is approved by the American Dental Association, it will have their seal of approval on the product. This will usually be evident by the letters “ADA”. The ADA’s seal simply means that a product does what it claims to do as well as has met the safety criteriaestablished by the ADA.

Importance of flossing between your teeth:

  • Flossing cleans between teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach
  • Flossing also helps control bad breath.
  • By combining flossing and brushing each day, you can remove plaque and prevent cavities and gum disease.
